GETEX ASSISTS A WESTERN SYDNEY COUNCIL IN OCTOBER 2007
WITH ASBETOS REGISTERS FOR ALL ASSETS IN ORDER TO MEET
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY REGULATION REQUIREMENTS
GETEX Director Lee McAlister-Smiley today announced that Getex is currently assisting a Western Sydney Council to establish a comprehensive asbestos register for all structural assets in order to help ensure asbestos related OHS issues are managed effectively. The survey schedule covers over 203 assets with the register being made available in electronic form.
Mr McAlister-Smiley said “The electronic asbestos register produced by GETEX has a proven track record in ease of use, manageability and flexibility. One of the benefits of the electronic asbestos register is its capacity to be internally updated as identified asbestos materials are removed or treated. The electronic register provides the controller of premises with correct procedures for dealing with works which have the potential to disturb asbestos materials and provides information to help protect public health and ensure the safety of employees, contractors and visitors.”
GETEX Senior Consultant Owen Sainty, who is assisting in managing the project pointed out “GETEX has provided assistance to several Councils and other Government Departments and Agencies and while GETEX continues to provide client services to Government and Non-government Organisations we also provide the same attentive professional services and support to individual home-owners, company owners and managers. As consultants, we have considerable knowledge & experience and whether you are a business owner, manager, staff or home owner we aim to provide you with the information, skills and strategies you need to meet and exceed your particular responsibilities or requirements.”
Mr Sainty went on to say “As part of the OHS regulatory reforms introduced in NSW in September 2001, there are important obligations now placed on building owners, managers and employers in relation to managing asbestos risks in workplaces. The reforms have been introduced under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000 and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 2001.
